Shipping

This kit (the version without glass container) is carefully packed to keep the live plants and moss safe and protected during transit. All dry materials (LECA, charcoal, soil, sand, gravel, mesh, tools) are secured so nothing shifts or spills.

Live plants & moss are prepared fresh shortly before shipping. They may show mild stress after travel (slight wilting or softer leaves) – this is completely normal and usually resolves within 2–5 days once assembled in your container with proper humidity and indirect light.

Upon arrival
Please open the package right away and check everything:

  • Live plants and moss should look fresh (even if slightly relaxed).
  • If you notice serious damage (broken stems, rotting parts, or moss in poor condition), contact us within 24 hours with clear photos. We’ll take care of it quickly.

Assembly
Open and assemble the terrarium within 48 hours of delivery – the live elements need fresh air and placement in your container as soon as possible to recover and thrive.

Returns
Because this kit contains live plants and moss, it does not qualify for the standard 14-day return period (per consumer protection law exceptions for perishable / quickly deteriorating goods).
We review returns case-by-case only in situations of proven shipping damage or our error (wrong plants sent, damaged in transit). If that happens, write to us immediately – we’ll find the best solution together.

Care

Once assembled in your sealed container, this closed system mostly cares for itself. It asks for observation more than daily work.

Light
Bright, indirect light.
Place your container where it gets plenty of natural daylight without direct sun – north or east-facing windowsill, or 1–2 meters from south-facing glass is ideal.
Direct sun can overheat the interior and upset the balance.

Water
Very little, very rarely.
The soil should remain lightly moist, never soggy.
Condensation on the glass walls usually provides enough moisture. Water only if the interior stays dry for weeks and plants show thirst (softening or curling leaves).

Placement
Indoors, in a peaceful spot.
Keep away from heaters, radiators, air conditioners, drafts, or extreme temperature swings.
18–24 °C feels right — same as your comfortable room.

The most important part
Observe more than intervene.
Check the condensation morning and evening.
Notice how plants respond over days and weeks.
Gentle mist on the glass and steady green growth mean balance is holding.
If too dry or too wet appears — adjust gently, with patience.

This isn’t about constant tending.
It’s about giving time.
And time is what makes it thrive.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make it with children or with zero experience?

Yes – that’s exactly who it’s for. There is no mistake you can’t recover from. Children love arranging the layers and watching things grow. If something isn’t perfect – it’s still fine. This is a process, not a test.

How long will the terrarium live?

Years – when conditions are right. Many MossBoss customers have terrariums thriving for 2–4 years and still growing. Plants change slowly, moss spreads, balance holds. It’s not a one-time thing.

Will everything die if I forget to water it?

No. A closed terrarium is designed exactly for that – moisture circulates inside and the system mostly takes care of itself for months. Many people check once every 4–6 weeks and add just 1–2 tablespoons of water if needed. Forgetting is not a disaster.

How often do I need to water – every day?

Almost never. After assembly, watch the glass: regular morning and evening condensation means everything is working. If it stays completely dry for weeks, add a little water. Most owners do this once every 1–3 months.

If mould / white fuzz appears – is it over?

Not at all. A light white coating in the first 1–3 weeks is normal (it’s a helpful fungus). Just remove the lid for 1–2 days to let it air out. If it’s too much, gently remove the affected part with tweezers. The system recovers quickly.

Where exactly should I place it – in sun or shade?

Bright, indirect light is ideal – near a window with a sheer curtain, 1–2 metres from the glass, no direct sun. Direct sunlight can overheat the inside. A desk, shelf or table in a naturally lit room works beautifully.

Can I put it in the bedroom / bathroom / on my desk?

Yes – anywhere with decent light and not too dark. Bathrooms (humid) are wonderful for closed terrariums. Desks are perfect for daily watching. Bedrooms – a quiet companion that asks for almost nothing.

If the plants look limp / yellow in the beginning – is that normal?

Yes, completely normal. Plants need 7–14 days to adjust to the new environment. Some leaves may yellow or drop – that’s part of settling in. Give them time. Most wake up stronger after 2–3 weeks.

Do I need to open the lid and ventilate?

Not usually. A closed terrarium is built to function sealed. If you see too much condensation or any odd smell – open for 1–2 days. Otherwise, leave it closed.

If I mess up the layer order or add too much water – will it fix itself?

Almost always, yes. If it’s too wet – open for a few days to dry out. If layers are mixed – the system adapts. Start calmly – over time you’ll see what works best in your space.
